The Road Ahead with Remote PHY Print E-mail

"O.C. Communications has been sitting shotgun on the road to technological advancement for over 30 years. Our clients drive us, and we are along for the ride ready to take on whatever comes our way. We get a bird’s eye view on what is trending in the industry, and our sights are currently focused on Remote PHY and its role in the Gigabit Era.

The Gigabit Era calls for an upgrade to all-IP delivery of our services. Consumers now demand faster and better networks. According to CableLabs, Remote PHY will be able to address the problem of crowded headend space that we are currently dealing with by moving the DOCSIS PHY chip closer to the customer while leaving the rest of the hardware centralized. By placing the PHY chip deeper into the core of the network, customers will have the ability to access faster speeds with higher capacities.

What does this information mean to you? With the growing popularity of video on demand and HSD voice quality, you can bet that the expansion of distributed access architecture will play a crucial role in consumer’s growing demands. Our eyes are focused on the road ahead, and Remote PHY is on the horizon. "
